Al Lago Christmas market 15th December
We have been working all year to get ready for the Christmas market.
It all started with a bumper crop of figs this summer, we couldn´t use them fast enough so we laid down sheets and dried them in the sun for use them in our Chrismas cakes and mince pies.
As we are not fans of suet and see no need to use it as a binder in a mince pie, we have cooked down dried figs with moscatel raisins, apples, plums and apricots ending up with a stunning vegetarian version of the winter clasic.
Next came time to collect the Marcona almonds which were then split open using a rock,
one at a time,then peeled and ground and mixed with egg yolk, vanilla, and sugar to make the Spanish classic, Turron de yema.
From the poster you can see the number of local artisans that will be here to help you work your way through your Christmas gift list. Not only are you getting quality hand crafted items you are helping to support the local community, keeping alive skills such as leather tooling, glass blowing, hand knitting, weaving and much more. As well as all this there will be beeswax candles, fresh breads and cakes, hand made toys and
jewellry, raw chocolate, yoga clothing and greeting cards. Al lago´s kitchen will be serving market plates at 10.50 euros, either chicken or vegetable with rice, flatbreads and chutneys. Come and enjoy the atomosphere, meet up with friends from the area and suppport us this December oh and enjoy hot mulled wine whilst you do!!

Al lago´s Green Farmers Market.
In Zahara de la Sierra we are just a week away from the first Al Lago farmers market featuring organically raised produce, baked goods , arts and crafts and even fun for the kids with face painting and a magic show. We are busy in the kitchen getting ready with home made Eclairs , Flapjacks , Strawberry jam, Mango and fresh mint chutney and that just the tip of the ice burg.With our Market menu of Indian curries and flat breads come to shop then stay for lunch. We hope to see you on the 10th for food , fun and much more.

Hi Ho, HI Ho , Its off to work we go.....
After our winter break we are recharged ,re-inspired and raring to go.We kick off the 2012 season with Al Lago's Valentines week long celebration.Cant get away on the 14th ? No problem ! Al Lago will be running our special "Lovers Menu " from the tenth of February to the 20th.The menu include mushroom raviolis, smoked salmon and caviar blinis, baked scallops with prawns and herb bread crumbs followed by John Dory stuffed with crab, Seared and roasted wild Boar, roasted Quail with pistachio followed by Tiramisu or a n assortment of Local cheeses from Zahara de la Sierra. Christmas market and goodies
With December just around the corner the AL LAGO kitchen is buzzing getting ready for our CHRISTMAS MARKET on the tenth. At AL LAGO farm this year we had a bumper harvest of organically raised Marcona almonds .We have been pounding and peeling for days and are now preparing the Spanish classic
Turron de Yema.The sweet almonds are crushed and mixed with egg yolks, lemon zest and cinnamon then cooked in a syrup of vanilla and sugar.
Come and try some, taste some, buy some at our Christmas market next Saturday, the 10th December between 11.00 am and 5.00 pm. An array of local artisans will be selling their wares, ranging from leather goods, stoneware pottery, stained glass, jewelry, hand painted greeting cards, Aran wool and laceware scarves and children's clothes, beeswax candles, natural soaps, herbal aromatherapy bags, German cookies and waffles, organic jams and vegetables, textiles and bags.
Al Lago will be preparing Indian street foods, tandoori pinchos and lamb kebabs, veggie samosas and Mona's mulled wine alongside homemade mince pies, Linzer cookies, banana date breads, chocolate fudge.....you get the idea! Hope to see you then and remember Al Lago is open every day throughout the festive season for lunch except Wednesdays and for dinner Fridays through Mondays and feast days .
